GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION OF 2021 SEASON- On April 10, 2021, the Museum opened for the 42nd season. The celebration was honored with a ribbon cutting. During the opening, the museum sold their traditional “Spanish Hamburgers.” A great turnout of folks showed up for the event.

Displays in 2021

New at the Alexandria-Monroe Twp Historical Society Museum in 2021 is an Alexandria Name Game Board. Random pictures of familiar people from Alexandria are shown, and you have to guess the names of the individuals. What a fun way to learn about some of the people that made an impression on the community. An Early Alexandria Room was created. This room contains the Jefferson Mastodon Bones, maps of the Ft Wayne Trace and the Central Canal, and the history of the Lepane (Delaware) Indians. Now showcased in the hallway is the collection of our hometown Southern Gospel Music Legends, Bill and Gloria Gaither. Also in this display is Danny Gaither, early Gather Trio and Vocal Band, and Joey Martin Feek of Joey+Rory. With all of the local church information, these artifacts, pictures, etc., were moved to a room.

This year, the museum has a special display on the Barbershops of Alexandria. This display includes an antique shaving mug display.

Also, we are honoring the class of 1971 and 1970. Due to COVID19, the class of 1970 is being honored also. During Homecoming celebrations, these reunion classes will be visiting the museum in the Fall.

Fundraiser in 2021

The AMTHS is doing a fundraiser this year to help repair the outside building stucco. Over the years, the stucco has become weak and brittle. Now, it is starting to fall off of the building. Want to donate to the “stucco building repair fund?” Just send your donations to the museum or stop by during business hours. We appreciate all the community and member support!

Volunteers Always Needed

We could use your help! The AMTHS board always needs folks to clean, organize, and catalog donated items. Please stop by the museum to see about the volunteering programs. The museum also gives out a scholarship every year to a graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School. In order to apply for the scholarship, volunteering is an asset for criteria for the application.
